Project Overview
I participated in the redesign of the TAS/CAS main website and developed the new jurisprudence platform, providing the global sports community with modern access to sports arbitration decisions and legal precedents.
This project modernizes the digital presence of the world's highest sports court, making sports law more accessible and transparent to athletes, federations, legal professionals, and the public worldwide.
About TAS/CAS
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) / Tribunal Arbitral du Sport (TAS) is an independent international organization established in 1984 that resolves sports-related disputes through arbitration and mediation. Headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, it serves as the supreme court for international sports.
Global Authority
CAS is recognized as the highest court for sports disputes worldwide, with over 422 arbitrators handling cases involving athletes, clubs, federations, and organizing committees from around the globe.
Independent Jurisdiction
Athletic bodies and competitors delegate judicial authority to CAS to ensure consistent, impartial enforcement of sporting regulations. The court operates in three official languages: English, French, and Spanish.
Specialized Expertise
CAS provides tailored procedural rules designed specifically for sports disputes, including anti-doping cases, contract disputes, disciplinary matters, and eligibility questions. The court also operates ad hoc divisions at major sporting events.
Technical Implementation
The project involved two major components: redesigning the main TAS/CAS website for improved user experience and accessibility, and building a comprehensive jurisprudence platform to provide searchable access to sports arbitration decisions.
Main Website Redesign
The main website serves as the primary information hub for the global sports community, providing details about procedures, arbitrators, fees, and services. The redesign focused on creating a modern, accessible interface with clear information architecture supporting three languages and serving diverse audiences from athletes to legal professionals.
Jurisprudence Platform Development
Built with .NET and Angular, the jurisprudence platform provides comprehensive access to CAS decisions and awards. The platform features advanced search capabilities, case classification systems, and filtering options that enable legal professionals, researchers, and the public to efficiently find relevant precedents and legal reasoning.
Multilingual Architecture
Supporting English, French, and Spanish required careful architectural planning to ensure consistent functionality across languages while maintaining search effectiveness and content accuracy. The system handles legal terminology and procedural language in multiple jurisdictions.
Impact on Sports Law
The TAS/CAS digital platforms serve thousands of users worldwide, from athletes preparing for hearings to legal scholars researching sports law precedents. By making arbitration decisions accessible and searchable, the platforms contribute to transparency, consistency, and development of sports law.
Global Accessibility
Legal professionals, athletes, federations, and researchers worldwide can access sports arbitration precedents, promoting transparency and understanding of sports dispute resolution.
Legal Precedent Development
The searchable database enables consistent application of sports law principles and supports the evolution of international sports jurisprudence across jurisdictions.
Professional Standards
The platform supports legal education and professional development in sports law, serving law schools, sports federations, and legal practitioners specializing in sports disputes.
This project demonstrates how modern web technologies can make specialized legal systems more accessible and transparent, supporting the integrity and fairness of international sports competition.
